Dr. Nurmaamaamaa, an esteemed clinical dietician in the health screening department, and a distinguished master of nutrition science, participated in the KSSMN 2024 international conference hosted by the Korean Society of Surgical Metabolism and Nutrition in Busan, South Korea.
During this conference, she got acquainted with the strategies for food and nutrient management both pre- and post-bariatric surgery, a widely adopted surgical intervention for weight loss that has gained significant traction in recent times.
Bariatric surgery involves a gastric bypass procedure conducted on individuals who are obese, aimed at facilitating weight loss and lowering the risk of metabolic disorders associated with obesity, including type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and arthritis.
Furthermore, we gained insights from experts regarding effective techniques for nutritional assessment, assistance, and monitoring both preceding and following surgery for tumors affecting various digestive organs, such as the stomach, liver, pancreas, and colon.
